Role Objective:
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for tracking, analyzing, and managing the company’s cost structures. The role involves ensuring accurate cost allocations, maintaining cost data, and supporting cost management strategies to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Tracking: Monitor and track production costs, including raw materials, labor, overheads, and other expenses associated with manufacturing processes.
Cost Reporting: Prepare and present monthly cost reports, providing detailed analysis of variances from budget and standard cost.
Cost Allocation: Ensure that costs are correctly allocated across products, ensuring accurate inventory valuation and product costing.
Inventory Management: Conduct regular inventory counts and reconciliations to ensure accurate valuation and management of stock.
Cost Analysis: Provide insights and recommendations based on cost analysis, focusing on cost control, optimization, and waste reduction.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, cost forecasts, and financial planning related to manufacturing operations.
Variance Analysis: Identify and report discrepancies between standard and actual costs, investigating causes of variance.
Internal Controls: Maintain strong internal controls over cost accounting processes, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Collaboration: Work closely with production and operations teams to understand cost structures and improve efficiency.
Support Audits: Assist in internal and external audits by providing relevant cost data and maintaining proper documentation of cost transactions.
Required Skills:
Proven experience in cost accounting within manufacturing or related industries
Strong understanding of costing principles, including standard costing and activity-based costing
Proficiency in cost accounting software and ERP systems (SAP, Tally, etc.)
Advanced Excel skills for cost reporting and analysis
Good understanding of inventory management and costing procedures
Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and drive decision-making
Attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in cost calculations and financial reporting
Good communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills:
Exposure to manufacturing environments with an understanding of production cost drivers
Experience in cost analysis and providing actionable recommendations
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and cost-reduction initiatives
Knowledge of inventory control systems and stock reconciliation processes
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Accuracy of cost reports and variance analysis
Timeliness in cost reporting and cost analysis
Effective cost control and reduction in operational expenses
